ABC (a layout)

The October monthly gallery at Write.Click.Scrapbook is Tumbler-inspired. What's Tumbler? For all intents and purposes, it's a digital bulletin board for visual inspiration and bookmarking ideas. For the more in-depth explanation, click and read here. :) I chose this piece as my inspiration and created a page about Sadie's first day of preschool:

Things to Note:

• I created this page digitally because I found that it was easier to translate the inspiration piece into a digital page, although you could easily create the alphabet art and print to paper for a hybrid page.
• The little ladybug rub-on is from Vinnie Pearce's Bloom kit. The rub-ons come in distressed and plain and they are so cute!
• I have little idea about what she did at her first day of preschool (because she wouldn't tell me) so I journaled from my perspective.
• I plan to use this same design for a page for Caleb's book. Not about preschool, but maybe for a title page. I love this aspect of digital! One design - click, click, click - two pages!

Ride My Bicycle (a layout)

Things to note:

• It had to be a digi layout after I saw the bicycle rub-on. Although, I'm tempted to print it out and make a paper version with a lot more photos that I took that day.
• It seems that I scrap a lot with white cardstock (paper-wise and digi), so I really love White Foundation Paper kits by Vinnie Pearce. The texture is so nice on digi - can't wait to my layouts printed.
• She can now pedal all by herself.

Here We Grow Again (a layout)

I admit that I like digital scrapbooking. It's faster and easier, and though I have yet to do this, I like that I can create a page, change a few things and use it for both of my kids. That's a nice option. Having said all that though, I really miss my paper. I ordered a box of "boy" papers and embellishments from Two Peas, and I picked it up from the post yesterday. I'm very excited to dig in, but I had a little mental block since I haven't scrapbooked with paper since January. How do I do this again?? I'll might be pondering that for a while, so in the meantime, here's a digital page that went up at Two Peas earlier this month:

• This page isn't finished. It's a work in progress where I plan to keep little man's weight and height changes over the year. When I've included everything, then I'll print it for his book.

57 Minutes (a layout)

A simple, simple layout that went up in the gallery (more details here) at Two Peas earlier this month:

Things to note:

• I tried adding more to this layout. If you follow the blog, then you probably scrapbook, and if you scrapbook, then you've probably noticed that I am a sucker for little details on my pages. But it just wasn't working here. This layout wasn't having any of that detail-schmetail stuff. Derrick tells me that is OKAY. :)
• I played around with the opacity of a brush to get the layered watercolor paint "frame" for the photo.
• I layered a solid green over one of Vinnie Pearce's Typography Corner papers and changed the opacity for a soft, vellum-y look.
• Those cute little heart flowers are from Vinnie's Peach Hill kit.
• Someday, I will blog about something other than scrapbooking.

365 Days Later (a layout)

June marks the first anniversary of Write.Click.Scrapbook (go check out anniversary week happening now!), and today is the release of the new gallery One Year Ago. I especially like these two layouts showing photos from a year apart (something I'd really like to do with birthday photos of each of my kids):

But for my layout (links to supplies here) this month, I chose a different route, since I have my baby on the brain. When I started working on this layout, I was thinking how last year we were hoping to get pregnant, and this year, we welcomed our little boy into the world. What a change a year can bring.

Things to note:

• This layout started out so differently, and the enlarged photo was actually a mistake, but then I decided I liked the dramatic effect much more than the series of photos I had planned.
• I used the distress brush set on the numbers "365" for what I hope looks like a stamped effect. It's a great brush set for giving digital elements more of a realistic look.
• Those little rhinestones are from the Hero Arts Polky Dots kit. I've noticed that the Hero Arts digi kits I've downloaded all have little extras in them like digi paper, rhinestones, and buttons.
• This photo was taken almost immediately after Caleb was born. He looks so much like Sadie that it would be hard to tell their baby photos apart. Whenever people ask me who she looks like, I say, "Sadie." Simple enough. And true. :)

Raindrops (a layout)

The theme this month at Two Peas is "spring," and so I scrapped some very rare rainy day photos (with more details here):

Things to note:

• I used almost exclusively the Singing In the Rain kit, and it is super cute for spring-y pages. Love the pieced umbrella.
• I learned how to make a "torn edge" in Photoshop. See it there below the music notes? See it? I know, it looks more "sanded," but that is ok too, right?
• Nannie sent that rain jacket and matching boots. It's Gymboree, and it's so dang cute. Sadie is still wearing it this year, except that now here wrists are sticking way out of the sleeves. Maybe she got those "monkey arms" from her mama.

Boy or Girl (a layout)

The May gallery at Write.Click.Scrapbook is Lift-a-Reader. That is, we picked a page we liked from the WCS Flickr gallery and used it to inspire a page of our own. I was inspired by the photo on this layout to make this page (links to supplies here):

• I scrapped this page before Caleb was born. He surprised me by being a boy, but in looking back, doesn't this page look very boyish?? I think so.
• Those Artsy Edged Punches are super for added a fun edge treatment to digi pages. I've used that kit several times for the scallops and the label punch.

• These are all photos from a class I took in the fall. I wanted to pull them all together on a layout so that as I continue to practice my photography, I'll - hopefully - see some progress. Plus, it's nice to compile the body of work somewhere. It's important to me, so it's something I want to document in my own scrapbook.
• Some of these photos may make their way onto their own layouts. It really depends on time and ambition. :)
• I was really proud of the fact that I figured out how to make the corners of the paper curl up in Photoshop. So proud, in fact, that I feel the need to point this out to you loyal blog readers. (Nevermind that I've all ready forgotten how to do this.)
• The title is in my new favorite font: FFF Tusj. You'll see it again, I think. :)

Say Uncle (a layout)

I was always a little disorganized at best, but now with two little people and severely lacking in the sleep department, I will most likely be late for everything from here on out. That's disheartening. But what's that they say? ..."better late than never!" My new mantra.

Things to note:

• The color challenge is to use lime green, blue, and yellow! Play along. I dare ya.
• That's my brother in the photos. Photos of him are rare. Mostly because I don't see him very often. But when I do, he usually makes some damned weird expressions anyway.
• Love that graph paper by Jen Martakis! When Scenic Route went out, that was the thing I knew I'd miss the most, their totally versatile graph papers. But now? All is well again. :)

You & Me (a layout)

Due to one late little baby, I missed the April 1 launch of the new gallery at Write. Click. Scrapbook. The theme was Connections, which you could interpret a number of different ways. Here are a few of my favorites:

• Facebook by Celeste Smith - this was such a neat idea for a layout!
• Dimples by Beth Proudfoot - I just love those dimples. Seriously cute.
• Labor Day Weekend by Sara Winnick - This simple, fun design would make for some quick pages!

A few things to note:

• I used a template by Wilna Furstenberg for a jump start on this page. I love that I could play around with the elements and not get caught up in the design itself.
• Using Kristina Werner's Card Frames and Sentiments kit, I created my own kraft tag for the title. I like Wilna's idea with the marquee frame, but I wanted kraft paper and a little more detail on mine. I played around with embossing and drop shadows to make the frame really stand out.
