After doing the challenge with Laura in October, I thought, "Why haven't I done this before?" So I asked my good friend Heather if she was interested in doing a challenge. I always love her stuff. She keeps her layouts streamlined and clean (gotta love that!), and she keeps her focus on the story behind her photos, which is something I try really hard to do. As it turns out, Heather's a bit of a "challenge freak" these days, inspiring me very much with her mad attempt to finish twenty pages/projects by December 1st, and here she is taking on one more!
Our challenge:
1. Use the color yellow, which, like orange, is also a color I tend to shy away from.
2. Stamping. Because I'm usually afraid to use them on layouts. Might mess up a couple hours of hard work, ya know?
3. Rub-ons. I have drawers of rub-ons that are drying out as I type. Need to get them onto pages.
4. Multiple photos. Heather wanted to do a double-page layout, but I could only commit myself to multiple photos. Double pages usually aren't my happy place. Depending.
Here's Heather's fabulous double page layout (you can get more details here):
Isn't her son the sweetest little guy? I was actually holding him today, and 1) I can't believe how small he is; 2) I can't believe that Sadie was once that size; and 3) of course, I can't believe how much HAIR he has! Sadie was almost completely bald at his age. Our little people are all so different!
Here's a closer look:
And the other side:
LOVE how she included so many photos, and up close, you can see that she stamped her cute little star accents, and it just so happens to match the green star paper strip in the middle. I love little detailed touches like that! Perfect!
She mentioned that she wanted to do a double page that had one page all photos, and wasn't wild about the idea, but I love how her layout turned out! I think this layout design would also be absolutely perfect for a "year-in-review" or a vacation page. Heather may have just changed my opinion about the double-page.
Here's my take on our challenge:
When Heather wanted to use yellow, I thought, "uh-oh!" Besides the color purple, which is not allowed in my paper stash, yellow is probably the least used color in my scrapbooking. So I started with yellow and remembered these photos of the lil' Miss going crazy on this cob.
For stamping, I played it safe with my trusted Hero Arts Layering Circles stamps (do you think I need some more stamps? I feel like I overuse these) for the background of the main photo. And I added a strip of stamped scallop, which I embossed with clear embossing ink. The scallop is from Stampin' Up All Scallops set.
Rub-ons. I used American Crafts mini-marks rub-ons for the smaller part of my title. The letters "corny" are also American Crafts: Vera Vinyl Thickers, which just happen to come in the most fabulous shade of yellow.
I can't imagine there is much of a market for corn on the cob accents so I made my own! I free-handed the husk from felt, layered it with a piece of yellow patterned paper, and stitched it with my sewing machine. I have added handmade felt accents to quite a few things lately.
Multiple photos - that part was easy! I must have taken like 30 photos of her eating corn. I added some felt edging on the three smaller photos to balance the layout and give it a bit of country charm. The whole layout feels country to me. Could be the John Deere color combo. Sigh. Makes me miss home.
On a happier note, thanks, Heather, for a fun challenge! You're the best!
